19 Jan 10 Getting Quick Money During A Recession

Many people are suffering under the weight of recession burdens, whether losing your job, or creating enough income to scrap by during company cutbacks.  There isn’t a lot of work out there, and unemployment doesn’t always make ends meet.  Where do you turn when it looks as though there aren’t very many places?  Well, here are a few ideas to at least supplement your income.  Probably not enough to survive on, but enough that you can at least carry on.

Take advantage of places like eBay.  Consider selling off some of the old stuff that you don’t use.  Anything from clothing that you or family member either don’t wear or have outgrown (as long as the clothing is still in good condition).  Old games, movies, etc that you don’t use as much as you thought you would when you purchased the items.  A resource like eBay can clear out items you don’t use, and put money in your pocket that you desperately need.

Try some work from home opportunities.  If your area is really reeling from the recession, consider finding a job online, where the pastures may be greener.  There are a wealth of opportunities from freelance writing and editing, to data entry positions, and even online customer service.  All of which you can do from your own home, on your own computer, with your own internet connection.

Keeping with the online opportunities you can also try taking surveys online.  You can actually make a nice chunk of change taking surveys if you can find the right places.  Most of them work on a pay scale where you get so many points for each survey, and then you can trade in your points for money.  Probably not enough to live on, but definitely enough to help out.

These tips are really only meant to be short term solutions.  They won’t help you in the long run, most likely.  But they can be great money earners to help you in the short term, and can really get you out of a financial bind.

14 Dec 09 3 Ways to Lose Your Job Pretty Quickly

Are you tired of your job and you want to leave your job (so what it’s a tough time)? There are quite a few easy ways to get rid of it, and in this article I will tell you the things that, if done, will surely make you jobless.

Sound dumb, look dumb, and act dumb

If you are sounding, looking, and acting like a dumb then you have already outlived the time you were allotted in the company. Keep your bag ready, you can be released any moment. When I say dumb I do not mean dumb as in lack in intelligence. I meant dumb as in behavior. Putting on a grand display of bad attitude is a sure-fire way to lose your well-paying job.

Do not upgrade your skills

Why should you? You were brilliant when you got hired 2 years back. Where is the need to improve now? What the heck about technology and why should you prepare yourself for the thing that comes and go? Today it is one thing and tomorrow it will be another. Who has this much time to keep on learning new thing every day! This attitude will surely put you out of the job. This is a nice way to stay out of your job.

Say No to everything

Saying no every time a new opportunity presented is one of the quickest ways to get out of job. No one likes an employee who fears to take responsibility and evade doing things with all his might. At times saying no could be good thing, but if you are striving to be “king of NOs” then staying in job will get for long a little difficult. The process of getting out will be quicker, if your “NOs” are not backed by any explanation. If you feel you do not need to explain the reason for your denial to your superiors then you will win the “throw me out of job” battle hands down.

These are some of the things that an employee does not realize when he is thrown out of his job. He fails to see the reason why he was sacked despite being the smartest in the room. Wait for the next post in which I will talk about 3 more ways to get fired.

13 Dec 09 How to Write a Killer Cover Letter

A cover letter is the first real thing that your prospective employee sees. It works as a window through which your employer sees you, and based on the view he gets, he decides to call you or not to call you for a personal interview. In this post, I will tell you about how to write a cover letter that increase your chance of getting an interview call.

Killer over letter writing tips

  • Do not make your cover letter too long. Use four small paragraphs for the purpose.
  • Begin with writing a proper salutation. Do not mess with this.
  • Research your employer and include why you want to work into his company in the first paragraph of your cover letter. This indeed is the first step to writing a killer cover letter. You need to know about the company you want to work into.
  • The second paragraph should talk about your qualification in brief. Also mention any notable award that you got, but do not be boastful. The paragraph should not be longer than 4-5 sentences.
  • Tell your employer the benefit his company will get from hiring you. Build his interest in the third paragraph of the cover letter.
  • Request for an appointment and personal interview.
  • Sign off the cover letter with your name, contact numbers, and e-mail address.
  • Avoid sending a generic cover letter to every company. No one likes to be generalized.
  • Do not sound too pleading.
  • Sound confident, but save yourself the horror of sounding arrogant.
  • Try to keep your cover letter short, around 300 words.

Many a time, an employer get so much impressed by the quality of the cover letter that he does not give a glance at the résumé attached with the cover letter before giving a call to the applicant. Therefore, you should make it stand out from the crowd of numerous cover letters that an employer gets every day.
