Carbohydrates is an often misunderstood word in the dieting community. Most people consider cutting carbohydrates out of your diet completely is the answer to burning more fat and losing weight faster, but this actually isn’t true. Everything depends on what sort of carbohydrates you cut out of your diet, and which you continue to consume. Complex carbohydrates are something that your body needs, and are more helpful in your quest to burn fat than cutting out all carbs outright. Simple carbohydrates are what you want to stay away from.
Simple carbohydrates are found in foods like white breads, and any foods high in sugar. Simple carbohydrates are bad because they are almost immediately converted into glucose inside your body, and because the energy releases so fast, unless it is burned off right then, any extra energy will be immediately converted into body fat. This is why simple carbohydrates are what you want to stay away from in general, but also you’ll want to avoid ever eating them when you’re not going to be doing any sort of activity shortly afterward. In other words, simple carbohydrates are not the thing to eat as a late night snack, unless you want to pack on the pounds fast.
Complex carbohydrates are good because they are slow release, giving you the energy you need throughout the day, and also never releasing more than your body can use at any one time. Complex carbs give you just the carbohydrate energy you need to be active, or function at your job, but because they release slower you are only using the energy you’re given in smaller bursts, instead of receiving more than you need and having the excess converted into fat.
Good complex carbohydrate foods that you can eat as a part of your weight loss diet include wholegrain breads, high fiber cereals, peas, beans, potatoes, brown rice, and even pasta. As long as you don’t go crazy on the portion side, and eat these earlier in the day opposed to later, they’re carbohydrates that won’t do harm to your diet, and will instead give you the energy you need to keep going and keep burning fat.
