Having a green business is not just good for the environment, but it also positively affects the bottom line of your company. No matter how big or small your company is, you can still make a difference to your company’s bottom line by making simple environment friendly changes in the way you or your employees conduct your day in the office. As said in the Part-1 of this series, you can apply these principles to your home-based business as well.
Despite the fact that e-mails have substituted most of the paper communication, e-mails get read on pieces of paper. Many people have this bad habit of taking print outs of the e-mails to read them. Encourage employees to read e-mails on screen, and if need be start penalizing those who cannot change their habit of reading the e-mails on the screen. But, before starting to issuing tickets (fine), make sure that everyone knows that you are doing it to save environment.
Do you like storing photocopies of important document at multiple locations? Or do you like to store a copy of documents that you send out? If your answer is yes to any of the questions then you are wrong. Change this habit. Instead store the document in digital format. Chances are that the photocopies of the document you are storing were created on PC, but if it wasn’t or if it was signed or approved after the print-out was taken then just scan the document and unburden the environment by using photocopier as less as you can, which eventually will mean less paper consumption.
Installing fax modem in your office to reduce fax-related paper wastage is a good Go Green strategy. Fax modem allows you to send documents to any fax machine without requiring you to have a hard-copy of the document.
