18 Nov 09 Should You Work From Home – Advantages

In the last post, we talked about disadvantages of work from home career, and after finishing writing that, I realize many of my readers may not be aware of the benefits, and get dissuaded from taking work from home career. Hence, I decided to write about the advantages of work from home career as well. As said in the previous post, my goal is to help you decide on what you want to do by giving you both perspectives.

Advantages of work from home career

  • Flexibility: Once you start your work from home career, you will notice that though you have to work a bit more, but you are not slave of a clock. You are free to work whenever you want and leave the work whenever you wish to, until you do not missed the deadlines.
  • No Hidden Expenses: How many of us count the hidden expenses one incurs when one goes to work, everyday. I am talking about the traffic fines, paid parking, vehicle petrol, commuting expense, etc. You save all this, when you work from home.
  • Custom workspace: Unlike your regular 9-5 job, you can customize the way you want your office to look and feel. You can set your own lighting, adjust air conditioner according to your wishes, and organize the stuff the way they suit you, etc. This mi=ay not look much, but believe me it is a huge advantage, as it will significantly increase your productivity.
  • Time for family: Many 9-5 professionals leave their day job in favor of their work from home career because they feel this way they can spend more time with their family. Indeed, what could be better than being with your family even in office hours? After all, family matters.
  • Improved work-life balance: Professionals engaged in 9-5 regular job (which is neither 9 to 5 nor regular ever) are often found struggling to balance their work and family life. The kind of pressure put by greedy corporate always tilt this balance in favor of work and more work, which leaves the professional struggling. This struggle never ends until you switch your “career type” from regular (irregular to be more precise) to work from home.

04 Jun 09 The Hidden Dangers Of Air Conditioners

Air conditioning has become a convenient and commonplace addition to homes and businesses, but what most people don’t even consider are the damaging environmental and health effects that air conditioners have.  First off air conditioners are horrifically bad for the environment, as many of them still contain hydrofluorocarbons which are known to destroy the ozone layer when they are released into the air.  Although these are slowly being fazed out from air conditioner use, they are still used fairly commonly in many air conditioners.

Not to mention the problems arising from global warming, which is causing the use of air conditioning to spike, also spiking the number of carbon emissions released into the air from those units.  Which means in trying to cool ourselves through global warming, we are actually adding to the problem every time you turn on your air conditioner to escape the heat.

There are also negative health effects to indoor air circulation.  Namely, circulated air increases the amount of mold spores floating throughout your house, as well as any sort of chemical by products that get released into the air from appliances or cleaning supplies you may use.  Air conditioning keeps the harmful elements circulating, which can lead to aggravated sinus problems.

Air conditioners are also negative for your body’s natural adaptation to hot and cold environments.  The more time you spend in air conditioning, the less able your body is to coping with actual heat when you move outside an air conditioned environment.  Which is bad for everyone as this increases reliance on technology and the resources it exhausts for unnecessary tasks, like driving somewhere within walking distance so that you don’t have to face the heat.  That exhausts irreplaceable fossil fuels for a task that was essentially completely unnecessary, not to mention the damage it would do to your physical health in the long run from not getting the exercise of never walking anywhere.
