17 Sep 09 Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination is a very bad trait for you to have in your personal inventory.  Mostly because if you’re a procrastinator, you’ll find that you almost never achieve the things that you intend to achieve.  Whether in life in general, or at your job, or in the small accomplishments you want to make in your personal life.  Procrastination can be a hard habit to break, but with some work it can be done, and it’s worth your time.  All you have to do is stop procrastinating about breaking that habit for good.

First ask yourself what the biggest problem causing your procrastination is.  Do you get distracted easily when you try to do something?  Do you lack motivation?  By targeting what the problem is, you can look towards changing that aspect of your personality, and hopefully eliminate your tendency to procrastinate.

First off, whether you are distracted easily or unmotivated, try breaking up large tasks into smaller ones.  If it’s a big yard project you’re trying to tackle, try accomplishing the whole by just doing a little at a time.  Like tending to a garden, try just doing one short task each day, and you’ll find that you’ve accomplished everything before too long.  This is a good first step to stopping procrastination in the future, as it gets you on the horse accomplishing the tasks you set for yourself.

Try eliminating distractions if you find yourself easily taken from your tasks.  Try leaving your cell phone inside while you’re out in the yard.  Or try turning off the background noise of a television or radio, or your iPod, so that you can have full concentration on your tasks.  Sometimes that little bit of background noise can distract you enough that you can’t keep your thoughts together.  That simple of a change can help you stop procrastinating.

21 Jun 09 Mattress Care Tips

A good sleep rejuvenates our senses, recharge our batteries and prepare us for the next day, and a disturbed sleep ruins our day. If we talk about the quality of the night sleep, a lot depend upon the quality and the condition of the mattress. Hence, we need to take good care of the mattresses we rely so much on for our cheerful selves. Follow the tips written below, and your mattress will remain in a good shape for many years.

  1. Turn the mattress upside down and end-over-end after every three months. This will help your mattress shape up according to your body’s contour.
  2. Use protective covers to reduce the chances of any liquid going pouring or trickling inside the mattress. This will safeguard your mattress against sagging.
  3. Keep the mattress dry and clean, and do not use any dry-cleaning or any other fluid to clean the mattress.
  4. When carrying or transporting mattress from one place to another, carry it flat on its side.
  5. Do not allow your kids to jump or even stand on the mattress for long. Your mattress is not designed to withstand such concentration of weight at one place for prolonged period of time.
  6. Do not bend your mattress, not even at the corner. It will damage the inner coir of the mattress. Flex your mattress, if you have to, but never bend it.
  7. Do not remove the label from the mattress. Removing it may void the warranty. It is often written in the fine prints of the warranty contract.
  8. Your mattress is inflammable, so keep it away from any kind of fire. Yes, I meant smoldering fire of cigarette as well.

23 Apr 09 Picking Out The Right Running Shoes

Running is a fantastic way to lose weight and keep yourself in shape.  But the most important aspect of becoming a runner is finding the correct shoe to wear, as the most important aspect of running is how you care for your feet.  Your feet contain 26 bones and 33 joints, all of which suffering a blow equal to three times your body weight with every stride of your run.  You can see why you want to be careful as to finding the shoe that will be the right fit for you.

In the beginning you’re going to want to find either an athletic store, or a store that specializes in running shoes, they will be better designed to serve your needs.  Not to mention that specialized stores have a better availability of different types of running shoes, and the way that you run will affect just which type of shoe you should buy.

In choosing a shoe you need to figure out how it is that you run.  Feel out your feet during a normal run and pay attention to the way that they leave the ground, as where your feet take the most impact will affect which sort of shoe you should purchase.  If you run pushing off with the front of your foot you’re called a forefoot runner, which means you’ll want shoes that are designed with more padding in the front.  If you find that you push off with the middle of your foot you are a midfoot striker, which means you’ll want shoes with cushioning in the toe and heel of your shoes.  And if you predominately use your heel you’re a rear foot striker, and you want to find shoes with a higher concentration of padding in the back of the shoe.

Other than figuring out those mechanics there are just a few things to keep in mind when shoe shopping.  You don’t want a shoe that feels too tight, as your feet swell during and after a run, meaning a shoe that’s already tight when your foot is resting is going to be really uncomfortable for running.  In most cases it’s actually best to go to a shoe store after you’ve just finished a run, that way your feet will be in the same condition as when you are running, and you can better find the shoe that fits.
