13 Aug 09 Finding Healthy Energy Supplements

Taking some form of supplement to help provide yourself with healthy long lasting energy isn’t a bad idea, really it just depends on what sort of supplement you choose to use.  Like as in every other sort of food you want to stay away from energy drinks or pills that focus on caffeine and sugar as their main sources of providing you with an energy boost.  Instead you want to find more natural sources of energy, which include drinks and pills that work off of vitamins, Taurine, Guarana, or Ginseng.  All four of which provide you with plenty of healthy benefits, while offering little to none of the bad that excesses of sugar and caffeine put on your body.

All four beneficial in different ways, so you should choose which supplement sounds best for your needs:

Taurine is an amino acid that helps regulate your heartbeat and immune system.  Taurine is a natural byproduct of your body for both of those purposes, but when you tend to be stressed or tired often, your body will deplete it’s resources.  So using an energy drink that contains taurine will help you regulate yourself, calming your system and returning you to your normal relaxed state, so that less energy is wasted on stress, providing you with more energy.

Guarana is like a natural alternative to caffeine.  Made from South American leaves Guarana is slow release energy that gives you a good kick, but because you don’t receive all the energy in one blast like from caffeine, you’re left with more energy that lasts for a much longer period of time.

Ginseng works essentially the same way that taurine works.  Ginseng calms your body, relieving stress so that your body can use the energy you already have more effectively, resulting in a feeling as though you have more energy than you may actually have.  Because your body calms and redistributes your energy more effectively, you’re left feeling better, and feeling more awake and aware.

Finally vitamins.  Vitamins are pretty much self explanatory, as the way that vitamins function is to provide your body with the more rare vitamins that you may not always consume enough on a day to day basis.  By providing your body with the vitamins and minerals that you may be deficient in, you are able to function better, and your body can go back to regulating itself properly, thereby providing you with more energy.

11 Aug 09 Foods That Provide Healthy Energy

Feeling a bit tired today?  It’s a problem many people suffer through, and most of them turn to products like energy drinks, or coffee, or any other of the massive amount of sugar overflowing caffeine loaded beverages/foods available.  But that would be a big mistake, as by now you should know that energy drinks only provide a short amount of energy that will not sustain you in the long run.  Working off of sugar and caffeine provides you with a good amount of energy in a quick burst, but just as quickly dissipates, leaving you more tired than before.  What you really need to do is eat the proper sort of healthy foods that allow you long term energy that will slowly release throughout the day, leaving you awake and at the top of your game as you face the day.

The best natural energy sources I find are in green leafy vegetables, beans, and nuts.  All of these are low glycemic foods, which means that the energy contained within will slowly release throughout the day, taking several hours and providing you with long lasting energy.  Whereas energy drinks are high glycemic foods, meaning that you will feel a quick burst of energy, more so than from fruits and vegetables, but you will not feel the long lasting effect that healthy foods have.  You may not get an immediate kick from eating that salad, but 8 hours later you’ll be feeling much more energized than you would had you chosen the energy drink.

Another food you may not think of as being a good energy booster, is anything high in fiber.  Foods such as acai berries, most vegetables, and oatmeal all provide long lasting energy.  Because foods higher in fiber take longer to digest, the energy releases more slowly throughout your system, which means you get new fuel pumped throughout your body as you go about your day.  Providing you with the fuel you need to stay awake, and on your toes whether you’re at work, or looking to hit new heights in your workout.

25 Jun 09 Foods That Burn Fat

There is no such thing as a diet that will yield you quick results with little to no effort on your part.  And as a smart consumer, you should ensure you never tread into the pitfalls of the dieting trend industry by lying to yourself and believing that there is an easier alternative than the tried and true method of diet and exercise.  Seriously, nothing works as well as eating healthier and exercising more.  But within those bounds there are also a few foods that you can add to your diet to help in your bid to eradicate that belly fat.

Seven of the most potent healthy diet choices are:

  1. Fiber
  2. Water
  3. Salads
  4. Lean Protein
  5. Berries
  6. Nuts and Seeds
  7. Olive Oil

Fiber is absolutely your friend, as it’s not only extremely healthy for you digestive system, but also so that you can control your blood sugar levels.  The more in check your blood sugar is, the more in check your appetite will be.  Also foods higher in fiber tend to be lower in calories. So always go whole grain.

Water is a fantastic substitute for your usual soft drink, or coffee, or energy drink.  You may not get the same caffeine/sugar kick, but your body will feel much, much better.  Not to mention the fact that water is a 0 calorie drink.

Eating a salad made only from uncooked fresh fruits and vegetables is not only healthy, but also low calorie, as long as you stick to a reasonable portion size.  Use something simple like lemon, or another fruit to serve as that dressing flavor, and you’ll be cutting the calories, and raising your intake of healthy fruits and vegetables.

Lean protein is fantastic as protein has few calories and is a great muscle builder.  More muscle means more calories burned more easily.  Not to mention lean protein can boost your metabolism.  Look to lean meats like chicken, or go for healthier alternatives like soy protein.

Berries like fiber helps level out your blood sugar level, helping you keep better control of that appetite, plus they’re full of healthy antioxidants and vitamins.

Nuts and seeds are a fantastic substitute to other fatty foods you may eat.  In part because they contain monounsaturated fat, which is infinitely easier for you to burn off than fats found in most other fatty foods or snacks.

Olive oil, the healthiest oil around.  Not only is olive oil good for you, but also contains enzymes that turn off your craving towards other unhealthy and fatty oils.  Using olive oil instead of other oils is proven to decrease the amount of saturated fats you intake, increasing your likelihood of keeping that fat burned off for good.
