08 Oct 09 Curb Your Procrastination

Procrastination will kill a career very quickly, if you don’t curb the behavior.  Whether you own a personal business, or are a career minded employee at a big corporation, procrastination is the enemy.  Through procrastinating you fail to get tasks done.  Or worse, you rush to get tasks done at the last minute, not reflecting your best work.  Either is bad, and could cause your business to fail, or for you to lose your job.

Make a goal, and write it down.  Then post that goal around your workspace, so that you literally never lose sight of that.  If you feel like procrastinating, take a look at the goal, and think about how your current path doesn’t lead to that end.  That should be a good start to learning how to curb your behavior.

Next you need to prioritize your tasks to get them done.  This way you make a concise list of what you have to do, preparing yourself for the upcoming work.  With a clear list of what you have to do, you’re better served to start working.  Go through that list, starting with the first item, and get those projects done in order.  Don’t make the list and then think, now I’m set to start working tomorrow.  That’s the definition of procrastination.  No better time than the present, so start now!

Stay focused and cross off each item on your list as you complete them.  Feed off the positive energy of doing your job, and doing it well.  Let that carry you into getting more work done, at the top level, in orderly fashion.  The more you keep plugging away the better.  Before too long if you stay true to yourself, you’ll start seeing the positive effects of fending off your procrastination.  Getting your job done, having more guiltless free time, running a business successfully.  Once you achieve all of those through your list of objectives, you’ll never want to procrastinate again.

28 Sep 09 Daily Time Management Tips – 2

Let’s being this part of the Daily Time Management Tips series with a brief plan for the day. Today, I will discuss about importance of planning, and when to do what kind of work etc. After reading this, you will also know how to handle emergencies, and I will tell you why not to eat.

Avoid Oh F@#$! Moments

Plan your day in advance and avoid those “Oh F@#$!” moments. A detailed plan saves you from the misery of forgetting important deadline that lasted just 5 minutes back. Plan your day and put a tentative time stamp against it. If there is something that needs your immediate attention, mention it there, or mark the entry with red pen.

20% Free for Emergencies.

Well, I am not announcing any sale here. All I am saying here is to have round 20% free time everyday for you. This will help you do your own work, and if something urgent comes, you can use this time to do that work.

Think Big, Do Big

Do not worry I am not suddenly smitten by “positive thinking” bug. The heading meant to attract your attention towards a very important thing and that is this: Do your big, bulky works early in the day. Once this monster is done with, you will have the entire day to yourself, which you can distribute judiciously between several smaller works.

Do it Right the First Time

This is important. If you develop this habit of doing the thing right in the first go only then you will save yourself the agony and horror of corrections. Admit it, we all hate it. On the face of it, doing it right in just one go may look slightly time taking, but believe me it is not. Test it yourself.

No Heavy Lunch Please!

Eat less in the day, and avoid heavy lunches. A heavy lunch makes you sleepy. Start eating less than what you usually do.

09 Sep 09 DIY Carpet Cleaning Tips

You can use either of the two strategies to clean your carpet: (1) you can call professional carpet cleaners to do the cleaning works, or (2) use DIY methods. If you have extra money and no time then option 1 is good for you, but if you have free time then go for option 2. Cleaning carpet using DIY (Do It Yourself) technique not only saves money for you, but doing it is fun as well, at least for those who liked doing things.
I would recommend that if you can do it on your own, and if your carpet is not too dirty and doesn’t have too much stain then do the cleaning work yourself. You can use any of the following methods to do the cleaning work on your carpet.

Hot water extraction

This is the most common way used by people to clean carpet. You can find many types of steam cleaner units in the market. You should use detergent pre-spray and then apply the detergent directly on your carpet by using sprayer.
Give the detergent 5-7 minutes to remain on the carpet. Scrub the detergent off the carpet and then pile the fibers so that the soil leaves the carpet. Leave the carpet aside for the detergent to dry before using the carpet. Use drying fan if you have to.

Dry powder cleaning

This is another very famous method to use to clean the carpet. For this you will need dry absorbent compound or dry powder. You should not use this cleaning method to do the maintenance cleaning. This should be used to restore the appearance of the carpet, once it has degraded.
Apply the organic powder on the carpet fiber – this specialized carpet cleaning powder has been saturated and it contains detergent and dry solvent – and then scrub the surface using a pile lifter or any other mechanical agitator. This step is followed by using vacuum tube or cleaner to remove the powder and the soil.

Dry foam cleaning

This is another way to clean your carpet, and the material (foam) used in it looks like a shaving cream. Apply the foam on the carpet fiber, and scrub it after sometime with a brush, and use vacuum cleaner to remove the foam and the soil. This cleaning will give you a limited result.
