14 Dec 09 3 Ways to Lose Your Job Pretty Quickly

Are you tired of your job and you want to leave your job (so what it’s a tough time)? There are quite a few easy ways to get rid of it, and in this article I will tell you the things that, if done, will surely make you jobless.

Sound dumb, look dumb, and act dumb

If you are sounding, looking, and acting like a dumb then you have already outlived the time you were allotted in the company. Keep your bag ready, you can be released any moment. When I say dumb I do not mean dumb as in lack in intelligence. I meant dumb as in behavior. Putting on a grand display of bad attitude is a sure-fire way to lose your well-paying job.

Do not upgrade your skills

Why should you? You were brilliant when you got hired 2 years back. Where is the need to improve now? What the heck about technology and why should you prepare yourself for the thing that comes and go? Today it is one thing and tomorrow it will be another. Who has this much time to keep on learning new thing every day! This attitude will surely put you out of the job. This is a nice way to stay out of your job.

Say No to everything

Saying no every time a new opportunity presented is one of the quickest ways to get out of job. No one likes an employee who fears to take responsibility and evade doing things with all his might. At times saying no could be good thing, but if you are striving to be “king of NOs” then staying in job will get for long a little difficult. The process of getting out will be quicker, if your “NOs” are not backed by any explanation. If you feel you do not need to explain the reason for your denial to your superiors then you will win the “throw me out of job” battle hands down.

These are some of the things that an employee does not realize when he is thrown out of his job. He fails to see the reason why he was sacked despite being the smartest in the room. Wait for the next post in which I will talk about 3 more ways to get fired.

06 Nov 09 American Workplace is Scarier than We Thought

In a national survey conducted by CareerBuilder, it was found that 1 in every 5 US employee (18%) has a scary work place. The sample size of the survey was 4000. 18 percent workers said that the workload they are having is enough to scare them. This data indeed is frightening, and the decision makers need to take this result seriously, and make some key changes in the work distribution, so that they do not end up being exhausted, which will mean lack in productivity.

Other things that scare the US workers are as follow:

  • 9% of the total respondent said that performance reviews fright them.
  • 9% of the total respondent said that tight deadlines fright them.
  • 8% of the total respondent said that long work hours fright them.
  • 7% of the total respondent said that their bosses are the most dreadful thing.
  • 69% of the total respondent said that sitting through the meeting is very scary.

The survey was conducted by Harris Interactive. The sample consisted of 4,285 US full-time workers. All the respondent were at least 8 years old and none of them were self-employed or employed by the government. The survey was conducted online between August 20 and September 9, 2009.

This result essentially shows how corporate worker feels in his job, and how high is their dissatisfaction level. The HR department should take notice of this, and should make amendments before it is too late.

30 Oct 09 Joe Wonders, Should He Quit His Job Part – 2

Through this series, I am attempting to help Joe who wants to change is current job, but he is very much confused. He is not sure, if he is making a right decision or not. In the first part of the series we asked Joe some questions about his current job. In this part, we will ask questions about Joe’s financial condition and will also ask Joe to evaluate himself in terms of finance.

Analysis of Joe’s financial condition

Before Joe can jump out of his current job and take up a new venture, he needs to understand his present financial condition. If he is not very much sound financially then he should stick to his current job until his financial condition improves. To find out how healthy is his financial, Joe needs to ask the following questions:

  • How good is your credit rating? Joe needs to have a very healthy credit rating before he should quit his job. If his credit rating is not good then Joe should stay in his current job and build a strong credit score before he can think of quitting the job.
  • Can he sustain his life for six months without a regular income? No matter how starry-eyed Joe is, he will not be able to make any difference, if all he got is dream. He needs to think about his family and their life. He needs to put bread on the table, pay his bills, support his child, and have some savings for medical and other emergencies. And if Joe can do all these for six months then Joe is good to go. He should quit the job and chase his dream. Six month is a long time, if his dream is realistic and executable, he can start anew in this period.
  • Does he have sufficient savings to support his dream?
  • From where is he planning to get financial support to go all in?
  • Does he have medical and insurance policies in place? When is the premium due? What if he fails to make the premium? How much will it affect his and his family’s medical and insurance coverage?
  • What about his retirement plan? How will it get affected if he fails to make deposit to his retirement fund?
  • Is his wife earning? Can she support Joe’s family? And for how long can she do so?

Joe would not like to put his family life in jeopardy by making a reckless decision. Hence, these questions are worth considering before he could bid adieu to his current job.
