28 Sep 09 Daily Time Management Tips – 2

Let’s being this part of the Daily Time Management Tips series with a brief plan for the day. Today, I will discuss about importance of planning, and when to do what kind of work etc. After reading this, you will also know how to handle emergencies, and I will tell you why not to eat.

Avoid Oh F@#$! Moments

Plan your day in advance and avoid those “Oh F@#$!” moments. A detailed plan saves you from the misery of forgetting important deadline that lasted just 5 minutes back. Plan your day and put a tentative time stamp against it. If there is something that needs your immediate attention, mention it there, or mark the entry with red pen.

20% Free for Emergencies.

Well, I am not announcing any sale here. All I am saying here is to have round 20% free time everyday for you. This will help you do your own work, and if something urgent comes, you can use this time to do that work.

Think Big, Do Big

Do not worry I am not suddenly smitten by “positive thinking” bug. The heading meant to attract your attention towards a very important thing and that is this: Do your big, bulky works early in the day. Once this monster is done with, you will have the entire day to yourself, which you can distribute judiciously between several smaller works.

Do it Right the First Time

This is important. If you develop this habit of doing the thing right in the first go only then you will save yourself the agony and horror of corrections. Admit it, we all hate it. On the face of it, doing it right in just one go may look slightly time taking, but believe me it is not. Test it yourself.

No Heavy Lunch Please!

Eat less in the day, and avoid heavy lunches. A heavy lunch makes you sleepy. Start eating less than what you usually do.

07 Apr 09 Effectively Using The Internet To Job Search

The United States economy keeps getting worse and worse, or at least it seems, with the unemployment rate skyrocketing like we haven’t seen in decades.  And now suddenly you find yourself among those 8.5% of Americans that have found themselves unemployed, what’s the best way to go about changing that?  So many people would still resort to visiting locations to check for job availability, and shopping through help wanted ads in the newspaper, completely forgetting how awesome a resource that the internet can be.

Now practically every company has evolved technologically enough to offer some sort of web support for their business, and on that website 9 times out of 10 they will post job openings, and in many cases you can even apply online.  All you really need is to know where to start.  Which is exactly where my helpful tips come in.

First off, find a good reliable job search engine, something reputable like Monster.com or CareerBuilder.com.  Both of which provide support for either job hunting, resume writing, or even interview coaching.

After that, to make the process as easy as possible, narrow down a few options as to what sort of job you want.  Such as, if you are a marketing professional, you’ll probably want a job in marketing so you want to use search categories and terms relating to that field.  That way you can see exactly what’s available in your area, or even beyond.

Think about making yourself look like an intriguing possibility for somebody to hire by instead of just posting your resume online, consider make a simple, easy to understand, and easily navigated webpage.  Something that shows the effort you put into your tasks, as well as your unique personality, and how those will make you an excellent employee.  Plus something like that will definitely make you stand out to any employer.

And if you’re still having trouble finding a job, try a few networking sites for professionals, like LinkedIn.com for example.  As that will connect you to other people in the industry you are in, and it’s never bad to develop a few friends on the inside.

28 Jan 09 Choosing Dog Food That Doesn’t Cut Your Dog’s Life Short.

Choosing the right kind of food for your dog can be a DAUNTING task… with so many pictures of smiling puppies and fancy labels staring back at you, how do you make an informed choice?

Well it’s not that hard really, if you know what you’re looking for. Here are my 5 essential tips for choosing the right of food for your dog:

1. Forget about brand names.

A bigger name brand does NOT equal better quality. In fact, the reverse is probably more true, but we won’t get into that right now.

2. Put Your Emotions Aside!

What do I mean by this? Simply, ignore the cute little dogs licking their lips and the ones with big grins on their faces. Do not buy based on how NICE or CUTE the packaging is. I know it sounds stupid to buy dog food based on the cool packing, but it’s so easy to do. I’ve been guilty of this myself more than once.

3. Look at the ingredients

A dog’s diet typically consists of 40% meat, 30% fiber and 30% starch. Next time you’re in a store, pick up a tin of dog food (or look at one you’ve brought previously). Then take a look at the ingredient list.

The first ingredient on that list is the primary ingredient – so make sure it’s a form of meat protein such as chicken, beef, etc (NOT meat by-products) Make sure the rest of the ingredients include a good amount of fiber and starch.

Also, the fewer preservatives the better.

4. Choose Super Premium Brand dog food or Premium Brand.

Do NOT choose Economy Brand dog foods. These are the ones you’ll see in your general store. Go to pet stores and buy the quality stuff there. Buying a Premium or Super Premium dog food can literally add years to your dog’s life.

I was in a big supermarket yesterday, one of those monster chain types, and I ventured down the pet food isle. (I always buy my dog food at the pet store).

Follow these rules next time you’re shopping for dog food and I guarantee your dog will thank you for it!
