22 Dec 09 Gift Shopping At The Last Minute

Shopping at the last minute for gifts is a pain, but now that you’re in a last minute situation, you can’t just magically get out.  It’s going to take some effort on your part, but not too much, as long as you’re smart about your shopping.  A little procrastination never hurt anyone, but you may have to come up with a few on the go solutions for gifts ideas you may not be able to fulfill.  As long as you think on your feet, and follow these tips, you can last minute shop as well as most people’s well planned out early shopping trips.

-On the day you plan to go, start as early as possible.  Most people end up waiting until midday or later to go shopping, you can beat that rush, and get the best stuff, by starting out early.

-Now that you’re up early and ready to go, you have to get a decent plan of what you’re looking for.  This will also help you beat any other last minute shoppers, to get the best items.  Write down a list of names for the people you want to buy gifts.  This way, despite shopping at the last minute, you can be sure not to forget anyone.

-Now put a few ideas under each name for the types of gifts you’re looking for.  Remember that your first choice may no longer be available, so have a few back up options.

-Keep your game plan in mind, and don’t allow yourself to be distracted.  While in the store stick to your list, and try to ignore your surroundings.  You want to focus on the task at hand so that you can ensure you are able to complete it as quickly as possible.  It is the last minute after all.

-Finally, keep track of your list, and cross off names as you find gifts.  Keep track of those you’ve already bought for, and people you still need gifts for.  This way nobody is forgotten, and you only have to take one last minute trip, instead of the dreaded second mad dash for gifts.

06 Dec 09 4 Step to Getting Credit Card Monkey off Your Back

Introduction

If on one hand, credit card has made our life easy then on the other hand, clubbed with our carelessness and procrastination, it has made life more difficult for us. Like any other tool, credit card can cut both ways, and it depends on you, how you want to use it and to cut what. If you are reading this article then either you are in the mess, or you want to stay clear of the mess. The tips I am going to share here will help you keep the monkey off your back.

Step 1: Know your dues

Bring all the credit card statements along with a calculator, a piece of paper, and pen. Calculate the total amount that you owe to your credit card companies. Make a note of it, and keep it handy.

Step2: Budget

Every financial action should begin by making a proper budget. Make a monthly budget and include the amount you can conveniently pay against the dues in the budget. If you already have a monthly budget then make adjustment to it to include the amount you wish to pay monthly against your credit card dues.

Step 3: Stop spending

If on one hand you make small payments every month to clear the dues, and on the other hand, you keep on adding to it by shopping using your credit card then you are never going to bid adieu to this monkey. You need to stop swiping your card for the time being, until the dues are not settled.

Step 4: Pay as much as you can

I am big fan of having a healthy savings and investment, but I do not preach this when you have to clear credit card dues. It is financial foolishness because the interest you receive on your saving is way too low in comparison to the interest and fine you have to pay on the accumulated dues. And did I talk about the serious blow it gives to your credit rating?

A closing thought

Start saving and investing as soon as you get this bloody monkey off your back, but for the time being, stay away from it and concentrate on paying the dues.

17 Sep 09 Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination is a very bad trait for you to have in your personal inventory.  Mostly because if you’re a procrastinator, you’ll find that you almost never achieve the things that you intend to achieve.  Whether in life in general, or at your job, or in the small accomplishments you want to make in your personal life.  Procrastination can be a hard habit to break, but with some work it can be done, and it’s worth your time.  All you have to do is stop procrastinating about breaking that habit for good.

First ask yourself what the biggest problem causing your procrastination is.  Do you get distracted easily when you try to do something?  Do you lack motivation?  By targeting what the problem is, you can look towards changing that aspect of your personality, and hopefully eliminate your tendency to procrastinate.

First off, whether you are distracted easily or unmotivated, try breaking up large tasks into smaller ones.  If it’s a big yard project you’re trying to tackle, try accomplishing the whole by just doing a little at a time.  Like tending to a garden, try just doing one short task each day, and you’ll find that you’ve accomplished everything before too long.  This is a good first step to stopping procrastination in the future, as it gets you on the horse accomplishing the tasks you set for yourself.

Try eliminating distractions if you find yourself easily taken from your tasks.  Try leaving your cell phone inside while you’re out in the yard.  Or try turning off the background noise of a television or radio, or your iPod, so that you can have full concentration on your tasks.  Sometimes that little bit of background noise can distract you enough that you can’t keep your thoughts together.  That simple of a change can help you stop procrastinating.
