22 Jan 10 Ways To Donate To Haiti Relief

The disaster in Haiti defies any sort of words to describe the chaos that has ravaged most of the country.  Roughly estimated, around 1/3 of the population is in need of the most basic aide in order to survive.  That means millions are without simply food, water, shelter, as well as clean clothes and other hygiene accessories.  Reading the news stories, and watching the devastation on TV makes you want to take action, to help those in need.  If you’re feeling the need to help those that desperately need your assistance, here are a few ways:

Modern technology is fantastic.  In addition to making our everyday lives easier, technology has made giving aide to those in need easier as well.  By simply text messaging “Haiti” to the number 90999 you can make a $10 donation to the Red Cross.  If you don’t have the ability to text, you can also send donations by calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or by visiting the charity’s website at RedCross.org.

Almost 50% of Haiti’s population is under the age of 18, meaning there are many minors also in need of special aide.  One of the chief foundations offering clothing and other valuable resources is Kids In Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.).  You can reach K.I.D.S. by visiting their website at KidsDonations.org.  They accept either cash donations to help the cause, or you can contact the charity and find out which items are acceptable for you to send as aide.

UNICEF is another one of the major humanitarian organizations that’s hard at work mobilizing to help the Haitian population.  They provide food and other resources to as many in need as possible, and are in the process of raising $120million to aide the 50% of Haitians that are under the age of 18.  To help this cause by donating, you can either visit the website UNICEFUSA.org, or call UNICEF at 1-800-4UNICEF.

If you are a frequent flyer for your job, or leisure, and you have a lot of frequent flyer miles saved up, you can also consult your airline to see if they are accepting frequent flyer mile donations.  Many are accepting them, in order to reduce the cost of sending aide to Haiti via their airlines.  If you have a few miles lying around, and you feel like doing all you can, get in contact with your preferred airline.

09 Apr 09 How Exactly Do You Network Effectively?

In building your website or blog the main piece of advice for success that’s thrown around is the importance of networking.  And it’s true, networking is the most effective means to drive your website’s traffic and get yourself out there.  But how exactly should you go about networking yourself to receive the most effectiveness from your effort?

Well first off you have to understand just what it means to network your website.  Networking on the internet refers to building relationships with other sites that offer similar content or interests to your site, so that both parties will exchange links on the websites they own, giving a chance for both sites to be noticed by opposing traffic.  Practically every site owner is open to these sorts of link exchanges, because in pretty much every case it’s a fantastic way to get credibility and higher traffic for your website.

The more reputable places you appear, the better your reputation will become.

Which is exactly why first you should look to every remotely popular site that offers content or products similar to yours.  Do not restrict on the basis that a company is too far out of your area, or seems initially unwilling to deal with you, as these can still turn out to become valuable resources in the future.  Be patient and polite and try to approach as many different sites as possible.

Make more contacts than you think you’ll ever need, even if a few of them seem as though they won’t be as beneficial as you would hope.  Mostly because you never know what will happen, and the traffic influence you receive from unexpected sources can differ greatly.  So it’s very important to maintain a good standing with everyone you try to network your site with.

And finally, make sure you always allow appropriate response time for any sites your interested in networking with.  Sometimes it can take webmasters a very long time to respond, so don’t be surprised if it takes a few days or weeks.  Keep trying and you’ll see the benefits of effectively networking your website.
