20 Nov 09 5 Places to Look for Freelancing Gigs

Until now, the world economy had been suffering from one of the worst financial crises we ever faced. Companies were getting bankrupt, employees were getting fired, and those who were lucky to survive were facing salary cut. Such was the situation. Nothing looked promising, but there was one thing that was on the rise. It was outsourcing business.

Outsourcing the job to the independent freelancers worldwide was on the rise, and it continues to gain momentum, as companies have seen that they can get good quality work at a fraction of cost that they paid to full-time writers. This was one good thing that came out of the recession. People, despite having all the required skills, were not getting any job, therefore, they turned to freelancing.

If you are late to join and do not know where to start then this article is going to help you start your freelancing career. In this article, I will tell you about places where you can look for freelance gigs.

  1. 1. Online freelance exchange: Freelance exchanges (or freelance boards) such as Elance, Guru, oDesk, Lime Exchange, GetAFreelancer, etc., work as intermediaries. It provide platform for buyers to post jobs, and service providers to look for job based on their ability. A freelance exchange is a good place to start with, as the payment is more or less guaranteed on the work secured from these boards, and for that they charge commission.
  2. 2. Blog Job Board: Blogs like Problogger has a dedicated section where companies post freelance gigs.
  3. 3. Freelance forums: There are many freelance forums where new freelance gigs are posted every day, you should register to one or two of them and start visiting regularly.
  4. 4. Craigslist: Use the keyword search tool of craigslist to look for local or global freelance gigs. You will find a lot of work listed here.
  5. 5. Twitter: Of course twitter. This micro-blogging platform provides a potent search tool for freelance gigs as well. Like Craigslist, freelance gigs are getting posted on twitter, every hour.

I know many people who have benefited from the place I have talked about above. Just do a preliminary research before committing to anyone of them.

20 Sep 09 Job Interview: 5 Signs That You Are in Control

The ailed world economy is recovering, but getting a job will remain difficult till the time it stands erect on its feet and sprints through the days and months. Hence, the strategy people adopted to get a job when the economy was down is equally useful now. Do not fool yourself in believing that your employers only hear what you speak and decide on the basis of that. Ears are not the only senses that the interviewer uses.  They use their eyes as well. There are some signs that your body emits and conveys the interviewer whether you know things or you don’t. In the following paragraphs we shall see how to give positive vibes to your employer.

Sign 1: Your soft and confident smile

Do not laugh, grin or don a broad smile. This will either make you look foolish or over confident. Just have a sweet little smile that oozes confidence.

Sign 2: Confident handshake

Boy, you are not in there to crush your interviewer’s hand by sheer power of your muscles. The handshake is not meant for that nor is the interview a right occasion to do that. The objective of a hand shake is to convey that you are in control, therefore keep it firm, but do not make your interviewer uncomfortable by making it too firm.

Sign 3: Don’t shake your booty

I know you will not dance there, even you will not attempt to do that.  My objective of saying so is to warn you against the fidgeting that happens due to nervousness or excitement. Stay calm, and sound in control.

Sign 4: Patience and humility

Do not jump to the answer even before the interviewer completes his question. Let him have his moment and complete the question. There’s no point in rushing. Take your time, craft your answer and deliver it patiently. There is no point in wearing your attitude on the sleeve. It won’t do any good apart from relieving you from the pain of sitting in the interview.

Sign 5: Where is your hand buddy?

The way you keep your hand, move your hand and the way you show your hand do matter in a job interview. It speaks out loud about you demeanor. And if it’s positive you are hired and if it is not, nothing will happen.
