Eating an environmentally diet is not only better for the earth, but also better for you, and your wallet. Going green in your eating will have you feeling better, looking better, and doing more for the environment. The key way to do that is to eat essentially vegetarian. Meat based diets contribute to deforestation, world hunger, and consumption of fossil fuels and water. If everyone in the US adhered to a vegetarian diet, it would cut oil and water waste by almost half. So it’s worth doing your part to save our valuable natural resources.
While eating vegetarian sounds like a chore, especially if you were raised on meat, it’s actually not that hard. In the beginning, try just cutting down on the intake of meat. Buy it less, and instead focus on vegetable and fruit options instead. Cut down your meat portions. You’ll leave the meal feeling better, and you won’t be compromising flavor. The cooking options might have to get a little more creative, but that can be fun in itself as well.
After that you can try a meat substitute. Try veggie burgers, or vegetable chicken tenders, anything like that. They still taste great, and will leave you feeling even better. Plus the vegetable substitutes have more healthy lean protein, and little to no fat and cholesterol. Same great taste, without the horrible consequences of eating fatty meat laden meals.
Also to help you feel great on your new diet, try to incorporate one meal a day made from raw food. This means uncooked vegetables and fruits. A salad is a good way to combine the two into one great tasting dish. By making sure the food isn’t cooked, you ensure that all the natural digestive enzymes and antioxidants remain intact. These are ridiculously healthy for you, and you’ll feel the effects of that raw food meal in no time at all.
By now you should be feeling so great you’ll never want to eat meat again. If you get a craving, just remember how bad producing meat is for the environment. Don’t forget to think about how good you feel now as well!
