06 Sep 09 Who Else Wants to Reduce His Water Bill?

Every now and then we hear people talk about “the impending” water crisis. Experts believe that in the near future we will not have enough water to meet the daily need of everyone who will share this planet. This will be a grave danger, a serious problem. This problem will have moral, social, psychological, political, and the economic complexity. In situation like this, until our politicians come up with strong agenda to fight this off, they will use pricing to control the crisis. Hence, saving water becomes very important, if we want to keep our monthly budget from bloating. The following tips will come handy in such situations:

  • Do not leave leaky supply-line unattended. A leak can cost you 1000-2000 gallons of water in one year.
  • If your tap drips, get it fixed as soon as you can. A drippy tap costs around 140 liters of water every year.
  • Switch on your dishwasher or washing machine only when they are full to its maximum capacity.
  • Do not waste water in unnecessary rinsing. Scrape the plates and dishes, and let the dishwasher do the rest of the work.
  • Do not shower your car with a hosepipe; instead, use sponge and bucket to clean it. The suggested way will also keep you fit.
  • Have you tried water-free car wash? Try it today.
  • Are you in the habit of keeping the water running while you shave, apply soap to your hands, or brush your teeth? Change it. It costs you 5 liters of water every day.
  • Use low-flow shower head. A low-flow shower head uses just 2.5 gallons per minute. It saves 25-60 percent water, on every bath.
  • Put a maximum cap of 5 minutes to your bathing.  Try not to cross this mark.
  • Do not buy a water-guzzling washing machine or dish washer.
  • Wash vegetable and fruits in a pan, and water the plant with the water when washing is done.
  • Do not water the plant every day. Know the plan type and their water requirement before showing them with water-love. Water only when plants need it.
  • Do not throw those tissues in toilet, use thrash bin instead. This will save you from unnecessary flushing.
