25 Nov 09 You are An Expert, Own Your Domain Part – III

In the first part of the series, I discussed about the changes you need to bring in yourself to make people realize that you are an expert, and in the second part of the series, You are An Expert, Own Your Domain, I talked about the need to upgrade your skill in order to remain on the top of the development in your chosen niche.

In this part, I will talk about the importance of being seen. An expert needs to be seen, if he wants to establish himself as an expert in his domain. No matter how knowledgeable you are, if you are not heard or seen, you are not an expert.

Networking

Talk to people in your niche, join different industry body, and make your presence felt, this is how you will become famous in your niche. Organize a small tea-party, or organize a brainstorming session to establish yourself as an expert in your field.

Give your valuable time for free

Well, what I meant is: volunteer for a noble cause. Give your valuable time and expertise to make life of a fellow human being or community better. Become a part of cause and help people. Along with giving you mental satisfaction of doing good job, it will also establish yourself as an expert in your field.

Grab a chance to lead

Do not just become a member of any community or trade association, rather volunteer to get a leadership role. Leading your fellow professional from front will be a big plus in establishing yourself as an expert. Let them know who you are and what you have in mind through grabbing the speaking, presentation, or collaboration opportunities.

Be the change you want to see in others

Every organization, no matter how big or small, needs to change with time. Some do it effortlessly while others need lots of persuasion. If you see anything is wrong or anything that can be done in a better way then take the lead and make the change happen. This is how you establish yourself as one who dares to think beyond the set paradigm. This is one of the traits of an expert.
